IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT THE 2020 MARKET

Posted by on May 6, 2020 in Blog | Comments Off on IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT THE 2020 MARKET

Farmers markets are essential businesses and many are proving to be a safer way to shop for fresh, healthy, local products. Markets are outside where the risk of getting COVID-19 is very small, they are set up with good social distancing, hand-washing/sanitizing stations are set up around the market, and local foods have touched less hands between producer and customer than in grocery stores. Rest assured our market is also working hard to provide a safer place to shop.

Due to COVID-19 and our current conditions, the market will be running as a shop and go market only. There will be NO events, or activities that encourage crowds to gather, at least for now. However, please know that markets all over the country are setting the bar for safer shopping experiences – they are outdoors, less surfaces to touch, more touchless payment options, food has touched less hands between producer and customer, and better social distancing. We are sad the market cannot be the social gathering place it’s known for, but we are happy we can still offer fresh, healthy, local foods in as safe a way as we can.

  10. Shoppers are encouraged to pre-order and pre-pay with vendors who offer that option. We will have a list of those vendors and contact information soon.

WHAT THE MARKET WILL DO:

  1. Staff will be required to wear masks
  2. We will have extra hand washing/santizing stations set up
  3. Booths will be set up with 10 ft space in between
  4. There will be one way in, one way out, one direction around the market

WHAT VENDORS WILL DO:

  1. Vendors will be required to wear masks
  2. Vendors will offer touchless payment options when possible
  3. Vendors will have hand sanitizer at their booths

Thank you to our loyal customers. With your help and cooperation, the Ferguson Farmers Market can continue to be a source of fresh, healthy, local foods for our community. Let’s all look forward to when we can meet at community events again. Stay safe!

Ferguson Farmers’ Market Partnering with Tower Grove Farmers’ Market

Tower Grove Farmers’ Market (TGFM) today announced its new partnership with the award-winning Ferguson Farmers’ Market. The collaboration represents an exciting and important new iteration for TGFM, as an organization offering
infrastructure to other farmers’ markets in the region.

“Our partnership will sustain the Ferguson Farmers’ Market’s proven success,” said Patrick Horine, who in 2006 co-founded Tower Grove Farmers’ Market with his wife, Jennifer Ryan. “When parallel farmers’ markets work together, we can provide for our communities and expand upon what it means to be a good neighbor.”

Founded in 2002, the Ferguson Farmers’ Market began its 2018 season with a strategic move to Plaza 501, which improved the shopping experience.

Jeffrey Blume, Ferguson’s Interim City Manager, applauds the partnership as a win-win for all involved. “Patrick Horine and the folks behind the Tower Grove Farmers’ Market bring more than thirteen years of operational and managerial experience, which will infuse our beloved Ferguson Farmers’ Market with new ideas and new energy,” said Blume.

Ferguson Farmers’ Market will retain its unique identity and strong community roots. The day-to-day operations will be handled by Market Manager Mary Haux, a longtime Ferguson resident and Ferguson Farmers’ Market vendor.

“We are so delighted to have Mary in this leadership role,” said Horine. “She understands the market and knows the community, and the Ferguson Farmers’ Market will flourish under her supervision. We’re also thrilled to be working with the City of Ferguson and to have the opportunity to bring our ideas to their award-winning farmers’ market.”

Friends of the Market Community Garden

Ferguson’s newest community garden is now accepting applications!

  • 15 garden plots available
  • Located next to Ferguson Farmers Market
  • Maintenance fee $10.00 annually
  • Business and Sponsor Plots available
  • Trainings and Workshops will be available
  • Gateway Greening Member

Friends of the Market Community Garden , at Plaza 501, was started in 2018 and has expanded to include the house and property at 28 Suburban Ave. This addition has made it possible to partner with UCP Heartland, a day care center serving developmentally disabled clients suffering from cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, and others.  These clients are primarily wheelchair bound and we’ve been busy making the house accessible for indoor, year round gardening.  There are some ambitious plans in the works to provide outdoor accessible garden areas including special raised beds, wall mounted strawberry beds, a greenhouse, and container garden areas.

In addition to the accessible areas, we’ll be putting in more garden beds,  flower beds, and an outdoor yoga area for our members’ use.
